Does Vinegar Kill Head Lice? What is this Mayonnaise and Vinegar Head Lice Treatment?

Vinegar is widely thought of as a cure for head lice.

The truth is, you can’t kill head lice with vinegar.

It helps to dissolve the nit glue, but will not kill lice.

Many talk of the mayonnaise and head lice treatment, where mayo is used to smother the lice, then the vinegar is used to loosen the nit glue and remove the lice. This is valid, but as discussed, mayonnaise for head lice is not the best option.

If you are going to smother the lice, try to use either olive or baby oil. You can also use thick conditioner. You can then use vinegar to loosen the nit glue that fastens the egg to the hair shaft.

To use vinegar to remove the nits, get hold of some apple cider vinegar. This is a natural antiseptic, so will help to sooth an irritated scalp as well.

Pour the apple cider vinegar through the hair. Let the hair dry. Leave the apple cider vinegar in overnight.

In the morning, wash out the apple cider vinegar as usual. The nit glue should be loosened and it will be easy to remove the nits with a nit comb.
